How would I fix a leak in the sink. The water is escaping through the silver ring around the plug.?
The silver ring around the plug is loose and lets water get through. Is there something out there that will fix it?
Unscrew the black plastic collar right below the sink on the drain pipe to disconnect the silver part from the drain pipe.
Next firmly push the silver ring up through the sink to remove it. Once you have it out, scrape off the gunk that will be on the bottom of it and around the hole in the bottom of the sink.
You'll need to buy Plumber's putty (Home Depot or wherever for less than $3), and once you have the old putty cleaned off, generously apply new putty around the drain ring (roll it out into about a 1/2" snake and put in around the opening) and then push the silver drain piece back into the opening until it is tight.
Clean off the excess putty and reattach the drain pipe underneath.
