My 99 sportster will not start intermittently?
I dealt with this for some time now, I can go start my sportster and it will sound just fine and running, smooth as silk, then when I shut it off to start it does not start, but only occurs sometimes.Have good spark and plenty of fuel when this happens, carbs removed and cleaned bowl and throw sometimes still will not start.And when you try to begin return cons because of all the fuel it is getting.Don t know if this is something unusual for a Harley, but any info would b great, it's a bit close sucks not knowing if she goes again .... Thank you
Ok ... there could be several reasons for this. I guess that is backfiring in the exhaust? GENERAL is the sign of an electrical problem. Are you 100% positive it is really about the ignition and fuel ?.... IN THIS CASE if you have spark and fuel, it should work, remove one of these and it will not. How many miles are on the bike? Was there for? ... Pipes, carbs, filters tubes, cams, etc. ... What is the jet? ... Senior pilot and ..... Stock carb? > ThunderSlide DynoJet kit or installed? Did you do check for leaking intake or replacement of 3 intake gaskets lately? You should be it for a store and ask them to verify or buy a repair manual factory for the bike and follow diagnostic flow charts. There are several things that could cause this ... Start with the most simple and obvious .... when this happens again, open the fuel cap and reinstall it and try to start ... if it starts right away, the gas cap vent is blocked, get a new ceiling. Other possibilities include the heating coil and by default, and works again after cooling. A defective ignition module and / or bank angle sensor or cam position sensor .... they are prone to failure more than anything else .... if it does not start hot will start after it cools down after 15 or 20 minutes ???... it is a sign of a bad module. (Coil, but rare compared to the module cam sensor / .... the CAM sensor is what fails often, but some of the latest Sportster 98-2003 used a module inside the cam cover with an integrated sensor and cam sensor inclination angle that were known for chess.) HD ignition systems are impossible without a manual daignose FACTORY, it would be wise to invest in a store or leave a check it out. If the ignition module does not require replacement ... go with a Daytona Twin Tec ignition system, not just a module, the difference in how the bike will be launched very sensitive. Convert over single shot with the kit module and the coil ..... You'll also want the Twin Tec VOES switch and the timing set at 32 degrees BTDC. Module Model 1005 ...... http://www.daytona-twintec.com/model_1005.html EDIT :..... on "the timing being off "....... although the timing is off, it will still start and run. A hot engine will not affect the schedule. And the only way the timing could be off if someone is changed, there are broken or VOES son ... Even then, it would still start and run, but not much ...... non-hot start / resume when the situation is cool 90% cam sensor or module / sensor combo, and the coil 10% most times.
