What are the pros and cons of trying a nipple shield with a 3 day old newborn?

(still having latching problems after 2.5 days)

Most of the women I know who have used nipple shields used them temporarily because they had inverted nipples and it got them through the painful/oversensitive part. If that is not the problem and you need help with your latch, you are better off working on it with a lactation consultant and skipping the shield.
