Knife Vest

Can I wear a bullet proof vest as a civilian?
I want to buy a bullet proof vest at the local army surplus store because I was almost mugged in my neighborhood they had knives and I want to know can I wear a bullet/ stab proof vest in case this incident ever happens again?
There are bulletproof (resistant) vests that protect up to level 3a for guns and level 3 spike. This means that they do make a product that will protect you from many dangers. This vest will run around $1300 but would be worth it if you were a taxi driver or someone else that was engaged in "riskier" behavior everyday.
The laws are different in ever state overall the rule is that owning a bulletproof vest or other body armor is not illegal unless you are a convicted felon, your in the act of committing a felony crime, or you intend to commit a crime, then it is illegal. If you really think about anyone can go get a plate of 1/2" steel and put in from of them, then they are bulletproof.
But i know several people that wear bulletproof vests everyday. My wife's uncle is a company president and he wears one when he is in the office and traveling. Not that someone is after him but it makes him feel more comfortable.
So to you answer your question yes, go ahead and wear one.
