I have a mini baja and i want to paint the fake gas tank. It has red paint on it. What do i have to do so i can sray paint it red again. Its all scratched. Its like a mini chopper. The fake gas tank is metal.
Do you have an air compressor? Try and take the tank off the bike and sand it down with 180 grit sandpaper. If the paint is old and no good it will flake off and won't leave a "feathered" edge. In that case you'll have to sand all of it off. Use body filler for bad scratches and putty for small ones. Sand that with 80, then 180 sandpaper. Prime and you can use Krylon automotive primer, which works really well. Sand with180 then 400, and you might have to reprime and finish sand with 600. Clean and use a tag rag before you paint. It would really be nice to rent a compressor and a paint gun to do the job, but it all depends on how much you care about it. They do make Krylon automotive spray paint in a can. It'll be an all day job.
