How do you fix a ballpoint pen that won't write?
I have tried EVERYTHING to fix my favorite ballpoint pen and nothing has worked. I have tried drawing circles on a glass table, using windex, using a lighter, and using a piece of lead from a mechanical pencil to try to fix it. It has ink in it, but still nothing. Are there anymore crazy tricks to try or am I just out of luck?
If it's one of the inexpensive ones (Bic pens) where the ink is in a plastic straw, look at the very end of the straw and you'll see a plug, when you get one of these pens, you should squeeze the end so that the plug pops out or just snip off the plug so that air can enter the straw at that end, otherwise the ink will soon stop coming out as a vacuum builds inside the straw (you see this a lot in pens where the ink has separated into layers as people try to use it against the vacuum. The plugs are a side product of the manufacturing process and aren't supposed to be there but generations of poorly trained employees trained by poorly trained employees have resulted in the plug always being overlooked and the fact that the pens all fail early means that they sell more pens. If it's an expensive pen with a metal insert, take it to the store where you bought it and have a refill fitted, perhaps with a medium ball point instead of the fine, the medium ball gives a thicker line but rolls better.
